Roly Roundup 2022

Roly Roundup – A year in reflection 2022

Well, 2022 is coming to an end.  This has been an incredibly busy and successful year, but it has still definitely come with its fair share of challenge, of which I have been blissfully ignorant of – but ill let my Mum share them in my blog.

At the start of the year, we bid goodbye to our very own Mr Hamptons – he decided it was time to hang up his measuring tape and pencil and retire.  We had a wonderful party for him that was a total surprise (which surprise, surprise, I was not allowed to attend), and apparently he loved it (although some random person nearly threw the whole thing the day before)!

This year we also bid goodbye to our original showroom, as we made the executive decision to move the showroom to the factory.  We felt that the ability to show clients the entire experience, where all the magic happens was invaluable.  It has made a huge difference for us in terms of the team working together collaboratively and cohesively.  The space is amazing – although at present there is still a little bit of a work to be completed as we have been so busy it has been impossible to get the guys to get it all finished – looking as it is now – I am so incredibly excited to see the end result as I know it will be truly stunning (as its pretty awesome already).

At the start of Covid in 2020 the guys were due to enter a team into the Raw Challenge, which is a very impressive muddy obstacle course, which would have been so much fun – but once again – I wasn’t allowed to go.  Obviously with things as they were this did not happen, so, they finally managed to get out on the course this year.  Apparently, it was a lot of fun and they have all said they would highly recommend it.

This year, Chloe, one of our designers, decided she wanted to enter one of her designs into the HIA Awards.  This was her first time, and although, we as WMW, have entered these awards previously it was during Covid and so there was no Awards Gala dinner.  This year everything was back to normal and so the team got to attend the Gold Coast Gala Event, and she proudly walked away with the Gold Coast & Northern Rivers Kitchen Design of the Year.  We are so immensely proud of her.  She has a real buzz and is looking forward to putting in a few entries next year – so watch this space.

We ended this year with a celebration at “Cali Beach Club” in Surfers Paradise and as always, much fun and merriment was had.  We are continuously blown away by the support and the brilliance of our team.  As they do every year, they continuously step up to the challenges and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to work with them.  We truly do appreciate each and every one of them.

This year we also completed Edition 2 of our magazine.  Last year my mum produced the first magazine and we were blown away by the popularity of it (I mean I loved it – but I’m obviously a bit bias), and so there was no question of creating No. 2, and she is already getting excited about No. 3.

I believe I speak for everyone when I tell you that we have designed, manufactured and installed some pretty spectacular spaces this year and we look forward to continuing to share them with you

WELL THAT’S A WRAP – I WISH YOU ALL A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS AND A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR – I LOOK FORWARD TO SHARING MY MANY ADVENTURES WITH YOU NEXT YEAR – WOOF WOOF

Roly Roundup – A year in reflection

Well, 2020 is coming to an end and I’m pretty sure that is going to make for some pretty impressive celebrations come New Years Eve, as we say goodbye to this incredibly challenging and for many devastating year and toast (hopefully) a new chapter.

When the COVID-19 pandemic first took hold, we all were very worried – we didn’t know what it meant for both the business and all of our lives.  It was a very difficult time and as a company we learnt we had the most amazing team.  Everyone pulled together and supported each other through this incredibly challenging time, and I have to say I was so proud of everyone.  As a company we have been so incredibly fortunate and have not had any downtime, we are in the building industry were considered an essential service.  Have to say Mum and Dad were probably regretting their purchases of fishing and gym equipment that was set up in the house in anticipation of time spent at home with the family.

At the start of the pandemic my Mum decided that she should put her name down for nursing, as in her previous life she was an ICU nurse, she felt that it was the right thing to do.  We know that throughout most of the World the health care service has been put under such incredible strain, however we have currently been so incredibly fortunate here in QLD that although she loved being back on the Wards, she wasn’t needed for COVID, and so she was able to return to her day job here.

When Queensland’s restrictions started to lift – everyone got to go out and celebrate Mid-Year, and what a cause to celebrate (once again leaving me behind ☹).  This time they went Go-Karting – it will come as absolutely no surprise to know they are all super competitive.

This year we decided to enter some of our stunning client’s kitchens into both the KBDi & HIA Awards.  This is the first time, we, as WMW, have entered into any awards and so we had no idea what to expect.  We are so immensely proud that in the KBDi Awards, all three entries were finalists in their chosen categories.  In the HIA awards, we were then super proud that Leighton’s design won the 2020 Gold Coast / Northern River Kitchen Design Award.  Mum’s only disappointment was – there was no gala event as I’m pretty sure she’d already picked out her dress.

We ended this challenging year with a celebration at “The Lucky Squire” in Broadbeach and as always much fun and merriment was had.  We honestly believe that during this very challenging year we have been able to truly see the support and the brilliance of our team.  They have most definitely stepped up and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to work with them.  We truly do appreciate each and every one of them.
